goal & impact

In response to California Polytechnic University (Cal Poly) raising college-based fees, Abolitionist Action Central Coast/SLO (AACCS) led a week of direct actions in an effort to inform students about the fee increase and push back against an administration that was already antagonistic to marginalized students. These direct actions included digitally- and physically-spread information sharing, phonebanking, in person rallies, and social media flooding. To spread the word about the week of action, AACCS created graphics which were posted to the org’s social media, included in their digital campaign toolkit, and sent in an accompanying email campaign.

AACCS’ week of action informed students about the then-upcoming raise in campus based fees, educated the community on the university’s historical relationship with campus fees, and empowered the campus through the reminder that students can push back against administrative decisions. The direct actions brought students together, disrupted the administration's fee raise, and generated new membership for AACCS.

my role

As head of AACCS’ Graphics Committee, I led the creation of all campaign graphics. In addition to guiding committee members in designing their assigned material, my role was to create two illustrative graphic sets for use in Instagram carousels. The first shared historical and current information related to the campus fee increase. The second shared an overview of AACCS’ week of action, details for how to get involved, and a call to action to join the org’s efforts.
